The first trailer for “Alita 2: Battle Angel ”picks up right where the 2019 sci-fi epic left off, with Rosa Salazar reprising her role as Alita, the fierce cyborg warrior with a mysterious past. Directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron, the sequel continues the visually stunning and action-packed story set in the dystopian future of Iron City.
The trailer opens with a sweeping shot of Iron City, bathed in neon lights and shrouded in a gritty atmosphere. The city looks even more chaotic and dangerous than before, with new factions and power struggles emerging in the aftermath of the first film ’s events. Alita is seen standing atop a high ledge, gazing toward the floating city of Zalem, her determined eyes reflecting her unyielding resolve to confront Nova, the elusive mastermind who controls the fate of the world from above.
The trailer quickly cuts to high-octane scenes of Alita engaging in intense combat, showcasing her unparalleled martial arts skills and upgraded abilities. Her Berserker body, now enhanced with new weaponry and features, glows with a fierce energy as she takes on a host of formidable foes, including cyborg assassins, bounty hunters, and a new, menacing figure who seems to be a powerful adversary with a vendetta of his own.
We catch glimpses of Alita’s allies from the first film—Dr. Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz), who continues to be her guiding force and father figure, and other familiar faces from Iron City. However, there are also hints at new allies who join Alita on her quest, including a mysterious, battle-scarred warrior with a hidden past and a tech-savvy rebel who knows more about Zalem than anyone else on the ground.
Interspersed with the action are emotional moments showing Alita grappling with her memories and identity. She appears to be unlocking more of her past, confronting visions of a previous life as a warrior in the lost city of Mars. These flashbacks hint at a deeper understanding of who she is and why she was created, adding layers to her quest for self-discovery and justice.
The trailer teases breathtaking new locations—ranging from the underbelly of Iron City to the gleaming, yet dangerous, pathways that lead to Zalem. There are brief flashes of high-tech laboratories, hidden underground fortresses, and aerial battles in the skies above the floating city, all promising a grander and more expansive narrative.
The climax of the trailer builds with Alita’s voice declaring, “I will find you, Nova,” as she prepares to face the enigmatic antagonist head-on. The final shot shows her looking up toward Zalem, a determined expression on her face, as the screen cuts to black with the words “Her fight continues ”appearing, followed by the title “Alita 2: Battle Angel.”
“Alita 2: Battle Angel ”promises to deliver even more of the stunning visuals, intense action, and deep emotional storytelling that made the first film a cult favorite. With its complex characters, thrilling sequences, and breathtaking world-building, the sequel is set to captivate audiences once again when it hits theaters in 2025.
